Elon Musk has sparked controversy with a comment aimed at former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following discussions about merging Canada with the US. Musk’s remark came after Trudeau rejected the idea, stating that there is no chance Canada would join the US.
In response, Musk told Trudeau, "Girl, you’re not the governor of Canada anymore, so it doesn't matter what you say," dismissing Trudeau’s authority on the subject.

The exchange comes amid US President-elect Donald Trump’s suggestion to use "economic force" to make Canada the 51st state. Trump claims many Canadians desire to join the US and argues that the country can’t sustain the trade deficits and subsidies Canada requires.
Trudeau, however, has pushed back, highlighting the strong economic partnership and mutual benefits shared between the US and Canada. The debate intensified when Trump shared a controversial map on social media, showing Canada as part of the US, raising concerns about its impact on US-Canada relations.
Musk also engaged in a heated exchange with Canadian MP Pierre Poilievre, who defended Canada’s sovereignty against Trump’s merger proposal. Poilievre emphasized Canada’s contributions to the US and its independence as a nation. Musk responded by stating, "A referendum of the people is the essence of democracy," suggesting that the decision should be left to the people through a vote.
As Trump prepares to take office, his proposal to integrate Canada into the US is expected to face significant opposition from lawmakers, law enforcement, and the public. Musk’s remarks have further escalated tensions surrounding US-Canada relations.
